A King Celebration 2001 Honors Dr. King's Life and Legacy Through Music
Special Week of Concerts and Symposia, January 10-16, 2001 Featuring Mezzo Soprano Denyce Graves and Clarinetist Don Byron

ATLANTA-Beginning Jan. 10, 2001, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), National Public Radio® (NPR®), The King Center, Morehouse College and Spelman College join forces to pay tribute to the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and remember his message in music with A King Celebration 2001. Since 1992, this week of activities has become one of the celebrated musical tributes to Dr. King and includes recitals, lectures, and concerts. This year's main event, A King Celebration 2001 concert, combines the creative efforts of critically acclaimed mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, jazz clarinetist Don Byron, the ASO, Spelman College Glee Club and Morehouse College Glee Club. A King Celebration 2001 concert is supported by a grant from WorldSpan, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs.

On Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, the 15th anniversary of the national King Holiday, the concert will broadcast over more than 250 public radio stations on NPR's daily classical music program, Performance Today ®. For nationwide station information and broadcast times, please visit www.npr.org.
