NPR News and WCPN 90.3 FM Cleveland Present: Talk of the Nation, The Diane Rehm Show and Public Interest Together in Cleveland
For the first time, talk shows from National
Public Radio's midday line-up will broadcast live, from the same city. Talk
of the Nation, The Diane Rehm Show and Public Interest broadcast from
Cleveland's Severance Hall on October 26-27, 2000.
Thursday, October 26 (2-4PM), Talk of the
Nation host Juan Williams and special guests will engage in a discussion
about the changing face of education in America. This live broadcast will
tackle the question of whether public schools in the United States are
adequately educating our children, how the school system is evolving to meet
the needs of America's diverse communities and the growing controversy over
academic standards and performance tests. Listeners wishing to join the
discussion should call 1-800-989-TALK. As part of The Changing Face of
America series from NPR News, Talk of the Nation broadcasts live, once a
month, from a city where important issues facing the community illuminate
American life in the year 2000. The Changing Face of America series is
supported by a grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts.
Friday, October 27 (10AM-Noon),
Award-winning host Diane Rehm talks with a panel of seasoned journalists
about the week's top news stories in the Friday News Roundup. In the second
half of the hour, listeners and members of the live studio audience in
Cleveland offer their views and ask questions. In the second hour, Diane
demonstrates her signature in-depth interviewing style in a conversation
with Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala. Sec. Shalala is a
Cleveland native and the longest-serving cabinet member of the Clinton
Administration. To join the discussion listeners should call 1-800-433-8850.
Friday, October 27 (1-2PM), Public Interest
Host Kojo Nnamdi presents the next installment of the show's monthly series
concentrating on America's cities in the 21st century. Using Cleveland's
community activists and residents among the show's panelist's, this episode
of Public Interest goes beyond the typical low income housing discussions to
focus on how skill training and personalized provision of services can help
low income communities change the nature of their public and low income
housing developments. To join the discussion listeners should call
1-800-433-8850.
Talk of the Nation, The Diane Rehm Show and
Public Interest will all air live locally on NPR member station WCPN 90.3 FM
